Seeing as I went to the Emery/Underoath gig nearly 3 weeks ago...I think that I'll just write you a quick rundown on how that one went. Although, knowing me, its going to be just as long as every other post. No such things as summaries on this page!
Went with Curries from the church to the gig, which was held at Billboard the Venue. It was an alright place..handy cos it had 2 levels so was able to see the stage pretty good. Much the same people went to this one as the last..maybe a few less.
Started off with a band I didn't know. Erm..they were okay from what I remember? Hehe actually I don't remember.
Then they finished, and Emery started setting up. Meanwhile, some VERY smashed guy decided to take a seat by me, along with his drunk friends. They all started having a go at Emery...before they had even started mind you. Drunk Dude turns to me (you're just going to have to imagine him swaying, barely keeping his eyes open, and seriously slurring):
DD: Emery are [crap] aren't they? Dooon't ya rekonnnn?
Me: Umm...no, actually, they happen to be one of my favourite bands...
DD: Whaaa? Mmmm...well I ne'er heard of em befo'...are they any good?
Me: Er...yeah...
DD: Well me n my mates like Underoaff...you like Underoaff?
Me: Mmm...yeah they're pretty good.
DD: Gimme five
*hesitant five to the weird guy*
...
DD: Which you like better?
Me: Erm...well, personally I like Emery better...
DD: WHAA? How can you say that?...Tell me that you don't know who Underoaff isss...
Me:...but I do...
DD: Nah nah just say that ya dont know who dey are...
Me:...hehe...but why if I d -
DD: Just tell me tha ya don' kno' who Underoaff isss
Me: Ok! Ok! I dunno who Underoath is...
...
DD: Gimme five
*Even more hesitant five*
...
DD: Gimme five
Me: Um...nah I think that's enough now...
Thankfully, he moved away and went into the mosh pit. Lol.
Emery finally came on. Was pretty excited I gotta say hehe. However, they ended up being a tad disappointing, playing only about 6 songs, and just lacking quality generally along with interaction with the audience - Lol this has moved em down a few places on The Big Five (hmm perhaps I should have a post on what a band needs to have to make it to The 5). Ooo a little harsh maybe? Hehe I dunno...but I guess you have to have standards when they're the top of your list. However, I'm glad I got to see them live. I would have been disappointed otherwise.
Underoath on the other hand were pretty impressive. Wow, the energy that these guys have for their shows are amazing! The quality of their music is fantastic. Although I love my music, I'm pretty lost when it actually comes to the band itself, so I was blown away when I saw the drummer (haha see? dont even know names!)...with his arms flying in all directions also doing much of the singing! Pretty cool.
Thus ended the evening. Unfortunately no star-struck moments with any band members this time, but a rad night nonetheless :)
Thanks to:
Matt: for the lift there and back! Very much appreciated mate :)
Dave: Again for the tickets hehe. Twas one heck of a weekend and shall be remembered for some time yet! :D
IN OTHER NEWS:
I have a confession to make.
...
I used to be the biggest Spice Girl nut in the universe (along with my sister Chloe).
*embarrassed face*
Yup. Although we didn't actually ever see them perform, you name the merch, we had it.
Cassette tapes (bit behind the times we were), taped anything even remotely Spice Girl related on the TV, barbie dolls (all five), went and saw the movie, we went and bought the movie, posters, stickers, even lollipops and deodorant!
We had it all!
So you can imagine how shattered I was to hear sometime in October '98 that they had broken up.
Thankfully, I got over it rather quickly!
(...well after a year at least lol)
Now...after almost 10 years...they're getting back together...
0_o
Whaaaa?
Can't say I'm excited about it. Or that I care really...lol. They left it about 9 years too late...
Will they still be a massive global hit as they were back then?
With emo/screamo, alternative and RnB flooding the top 40 charts, I'm doubting so.
It'll be a few years yet before pop divas are all the rage again.

9th June - Copeland/Anberlin
*N.B - Please read the previous entry before this one.
Alriteeyyy lets get this show on the road shall we?
I dont know where to start really...
Saturday - Copeland/Anberlin
Scoffed down a Hungry Jacks Junior Whopper Meal (messy!) on the way to Dave's house, as I was catching a lift with him to the gig. Hung around for a bit then we were on our way. Checked that I had brought my keypass...4 times.
Yay!
I was more excited that I let on...and if I let on that I was excited...that was nowhere near as excited as I really was. My GOSHHHH! 3 of my favourite bands in 2 days. 2 of them being in my Big Five (like the big 5 in the jungle)!
Sarah's Big Five*
1.Emery
2. Anberlin
3. Relient K
4. Jimmy Eat World
5. Bloc Party
2 OF THEM BEING MY TOP 2 ULTIMATE MOST FAVOURITE BANDS AT THE CURRENT POINT OF TIME! **Excited screaming**
*Ahem* Yes.
Found a park fairly easy and headed to the Corner Hotel. Lined up. Found Ben, Annie, Megan, Cass, Stace and Jo (anyone else?) on the way. Line moved quickly. Check I still have my keypass a couple more times.
(Please...pleeeeeeaaaase ask me for I.D!!)
As we move along we reached a point and a Maori bouncer stands by the side..a couple of metres away from the door..
"Get out your I.Ds please."
"Yesss!" =D, I say quietly, excitedly.
Get to bouncer dude. Whip out I.D.
Wait.
"Yep, you're good."
*Ding*
Take I.D and as I scoot off (have an electric scooter), say aloud, waving card in the air -:
"Oh yeah that's right. Cos you know, I so totally had I.D with me. And I'm so totally 20 right now."
Didn't see how the bouncer reacted..but it got a few laughs.
It was the start of a great night. Haha.
Got in. Couldn't see a lot to begin with, and was wondering if I'd actually get to see anything at all. Wasn't expecting to, but was happy enough just to be there. We all made our way to the sound desk.
Then Ben came up with an idea.
"Hey, what if we put you up on the desk?"
So after a bit of deliberation, I was placed on top of the sound desk. Consequently seeing over everyones heads..and having a fantastic view of the stage. Felt a little bad...cos now I probably had a better view than anyone...but luckily I had my scooter, so everyone took turns standing on it and getting an equally good view :)
I think the first band to play was Angela's Dish or something. They were pretty good from memory..and I don't remember much about them actually. Haha. Mind was racing. Thinking about the other 2 bands.
Finally, Copeland came onto the stage. Honestly I was wondering if they would be as good live...I dunno...their music sounded like the would have been technically...whats the word?...modified? improved? I dunno. Hopefully you get me though.
But they were REALLY good. Aaron Marsh has an amazing voice, reaching many high notes with ease that a lot of guys cannot. They played a great set, and if anyone remembers what songs exactly, please tell me. Check them out if you haven't heard them before. Definitely a newfound love for me :). First heard Copeland about 2 years ago (I think) and FINALLY got 2 of their albums in the last month. Ahh. Lovely.
They played for a good hour or so, then there was a bit of a break. Got a Red Bull, Anberlin shirt, and Copeland's 'In Motion' album. As I sat there all of a sudden reality hit me like a bolt of lightening. I literally jumped too.
I WAS GOING TO SEE ANBERLIN IN A MATTER OF MINUTES!
WOOO! :D:D:D
They came out.
And.
They.
Were.
Amazing!!
I think they played just about all my favourite tracks (The Unwinding Cable Car, Godspeed, Never Take Friendship Personal, A Day Late, A Whisper And A Clamor), except one (Fin). Sooo good. Sang my lungs out. Lol. Stephen (lead singer) can hold a note for ages! Oh its so hard to describe an experience..but you'll just have to trust it was one heck of a night. Hehe.
Like all good things, it eventually came to an end.
But not yet!
I MET STEPHEN!
Rather..
STEPHEN CAME OVER AND MET ME!
Haha that was totally unexpected. I was lining up to meet him..then all of the sudden this guy starts walking pass and goes "Heeeey!"
Me: *Look over* "Hi...*oh wait, oh gosh!* Hi!!"
S: "Hey I'm Stephen!"
Me: "Hi.....*tell him your name you tool!*..hi I'm Sarah!"
Conversation went on for a bit bout how it was my first gig, and was awesome, etc. He then got a CD and signed it for me, and had a piccy done. Sure I looked like a fool lol, but it was the flame on the candle on top of an already thickly iced cake. Hehe. =D
Thanks to:
Dave - For getting the tickets!! You're a champ! Also the lift there!! Verrry much appreciated! :)
Megan - for the lift home!! Without you I would...still be there I suppose. Haha probably not, but it was a big help :)
Mum - Helping me out with the Keypass. Without you..I wouldnt have got in! Now that's the truth! Cherry Ripe is in order.
Cass - For getting me off the sound desk. Hehe.
Ben - For the Redbull..and for getting the shirt and CD for me..and for getting me up on the sound desk! And for organising the meet with Stephen! You're a real blessing. :)
And there you have it. The Saturday gig.
(Took ages to write up!)
Stay tuned for the Sunday version!

Sarah Whitaker, starring in: The Quest to be Identified
My entire week has revolved around getting a keypass. You see, this weekend I had 2 gigs to go to, both at over 18 venues and I had no source of identification/proof of age whatsoever, as I havent even got my L's yet. I'm 20 years old (I know, I know, get a move on) and haven't had an issue with showing I.D until this year, when I nearly wasn't let in to a friends 21st. How have I got away with it for so long? I dunno..haven't really started going out till this year I suppose.
Over the last couple of weeks a few friends told me I most certainly wouldn't be let in if I didn't have any I.D on me. This spurred me on to definitely get a keypass this week as it not only were they my first ever gigs, but my 2 (current) ULTIMATE favourite bands were playing! Chant repeats in my head:
*Keypass* *Keypass* *Keypass*
Monday: Find poster near hair dressers that tells you how to get keypass. It's all ripped up - 'Need identification fast? Call (03) 9...*riiipppp*' or our websi*tearrrrr*' Ring Mum, she looks it up on the internet. Need to go to cop shop and get a form. Meh do it tomorrow. Ipod gets stolen on the way :(
*Keypass* *Keypass* *Keypass*
Tuesday: Go to cop shop. Get form. Need like a billion (okay, maybe just 4) pieces of identification in order to get a keypass. Yup, I.D for your I.D. Looks like I can get it by Thursday, as they Express post it to you once they receive it! Yay! Damn, need a passport photo. Do that tomorrow too, before Tafe.
*Keypass* *Keypass* *Keypass*
Wednesday: Wake up too late to get the pic done before Tafe. *Sigh* Should be enough time tomorrow to do it then. Should be able to get it in time. Yeah. Should. Pool what I.D I have together - birth extract, gas bill (proof of address), VCE certificate...need one more! Where's my pension card?! Oh well. Find it tomorrow.
*Keypass* Keypass* *Keypass*
Thursday: Get up at 7. Phew, enough time. Charge wheelchair. Leave house round 9.30. Go to Chemist and get Passport photo done. Buy a black fineliner too, as form specifically needs to be signed with it. Buy some other stationary as well so I don't look like a tool. Go home with pic done. Tear up bedroom to find pension card. I CANT FIND MY PENSION CARD! Mum comes back from gym same time taxi arrives. He's 20 minutes early, which is annoying because I need that time! Tell her in a rush that I cant find my pension card and she needs to sign stuff and could she courier the form for me please. Go to Tafe. Halfway through class Mum rings and says she cant find card and I wont get keypass sent to me in time anyway. Say Ill just bring my birth extract, student card and pretty much anything I can find with my birthdate on it and dont send anything! Hope an pray they'll just believe me. Hour later Mum finds my pension card. She will go into the city tomorrow and get it done there, so can collect it right there and then. Woop! Woop! Woop!
*Keypass* *Keypass* *Keypass*
Friday: Go into the city with Mum around 1 to get this baby. Find office without any hassle. It has a lift...but you gotta go up the stairs to get to the lift. Dumb! Wish I had a camera to take a pic of the 'lift' sign, pointing to the stairs. Wait outside while Mum goes in. They get one processed, but I did her mobile number wrong, so they have to do a whole new one. Takes bout half an hour (eastern Sarah time) all up. Mum comes out
WITH MY KEYPASS!!
:D :D
KEEEEYYYYPAAAAASSSSSSS!!!!
Nearly fall off chair with relief. Go out and celebrate with Max Brenners (chocolate resturant :) ) Mmm.
And that, dear children, is the story of Sarah and her quest to get a Keypass.
Did she end up going to the gigs? Was she able to get a lift? Who did she go to see anyway? Did she enjoy herself?
More importantly...
WAS SHE ASKED FOR I.D???
Tune in next time...
